Eng-Alb Dictionary Privacy Policy
Eng-Alb Dictionary (“the app”) is developed and published by Reimel Ltd. We respect your privacy completely.
Data we collect: none
The app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. The dictionary works offline from a database bundled inside the app, and Reimel Ltd runs no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your searches and search history are stored only on your device and can be cleared at any time.
There are two exceptions, both involving Google and neither involving us. The optional camera look-up is built on a Google component that reports technical diagnostics about itself, which carry none of your content. And the speak button can send the one word you ask it to read to Google, through your phone’s voice. Both are described in full below, under Looking a word up with the camera and Reading a word aloud.
Permissions
- Camera, optional, and used only if you tap the camera button to look a word up by pointing at printed text. What the camera sees is read on your device to detect the word, and is never saved, uploaded or shared. Decline it and the rest of the app works normally.
- Internet and network state, declared by bundled Google libraries. The app itself sends nothing anywhere: the dictionary is a database inside the app, “Search on Wiktionary” hands the word to your browser, and the speak button hands it to your phone’s text-to-speech voice (see Reading a word aloud below). The camera look-up component reports diagnostics about itself, described below.
Looking a word up with the camera
The camera look-up uses Google ML Kit, a text-recognition component that runs entirely on your device. What the camera sees, and the text read from it, are processed on the phone and are never sent to Google or to us.
ML Kit does send Google technical information about itself: an identifier for the installation that is not designed to identify you or your device, the make, model and Android version of the phone, this app’s package name and version, how long recognition took, and any error codes. Google uses this to maintain the component. It contains nothing you photographed and none of your searches. It is disclosed in the app’s Google Play Data safety section as device identifiers and diagnostics.
Reading a word aloud
The speak button passes that one word to your phone’s text-to-speech engine, the voice other apps use too; nothing else goes with it. Google’s engine has no Albanian voice stored on the phone, so for Albanian words it sends the word to Google’s servers and plays back the speech they return, which needs an internet connection. That exchange is between your phone’s voice engine and Google, under Google’s privacy policy; Reimel Ltd receives nothing.
Links to other apps
If you tap “Search on Wiktionary” for a word, the app opens that word’s page in your device’s web browser. From that point you are on the Wiktionary website, governed by its own privacy practices, the dictionary app itself sends nothing.
Children
The app is safe for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
